Brown Family Site Publications of Joyce and Les Brown About the The Appalachian Stillhouse Branch  Area  Mushrooms of our Blue Ridge, Appalachian, Stillhouse Trail Slide/Video Art Gallery

We have recently retired from our teaching positions at Gardner-Webb University. We are enjoying our time at our Stillhouse property in McDowell County, NC. Joyce enjoys the leisure of much reading, Appalachian scholarship, her banjo and guitar playing. She is on the Cleveland County Library Council. Les has been devoting much spare time to his pottery. "Pottery is my passion now." he says. His other interests include photography, short fiction writing and just hanging around in the woods at Stillhouse. He is team teaching a field course on the geology and ecology of the desert southwest with Dr. Tom Jones of Gardner-Webb and serves on the Broad River Greenway Council in Cleveland County, NC.

The Shelby, NC newspaper, Shelby Star, is now publishing a monthly section called "Boomers and Beyond." We are now writing a column for this section. Here is a link to the section and our articles. Past columns are in the archive at the bottom of the page.
